Vanentine's Dinner

Well, the budgies must be getting comfortable, because yestreday they start munching on their cuttlebone and the purple mineral block... yep it's purple, now they have a purple stain on their bellies. LOL I'm gonna look for a new one that doesn't give them a stain... LOL. They have a new food cup for treats...I put a piece of broccoli in it about 5 minutes ago, and they wont go near it... I don't know what else to do... maybe put a piece of millet in it first, so they know that treats are in that dish.
Last night my husband surprised me, he got a babysitter on his own, and we went out to dinner. We went to Bob Evans... not like a romantic place, but I didn't want to wait in a line that went all the way out the door and in the cold. So, we didn't have to wait in line, service was so-so and we had a family sit behind us that had a pre-teen daughter that whined about the food the whole time and the little boy kept crying and the daughter kept telling him to "shut - up" so I felt right at home. LOL The birds brought me a lot of JOY yestreday. They jump around and do great tricks - flipping around the perches, going through the rings, playing with the bell, and playing with each other. It was so cute they were on the rope and they were facing each other and it looked to me like they were fencing with their beaks. It was soooooo funny!

More pics of my budgies ♥ ♥ ♥

I am just so happy with my babies. I never thought that I could be so in love with them. They bring me so much joy & happiness. They are getting use to their surroundings and letting me touch them more and more. I've been spending about 20 minutes every day with each of them in the bathroom.
Ivie (lilac color) is the most friendly with me. It takes her about 5 minutes of flying around and then she lets me catch him/her and then it will sit on my leg or on my shoulder. She freaks out when I try and give her some broccoli, I don't think she knows it's food. Ivie calms down and relaxes with me very easy, when my husband walks in the room he/she tenses up, but will "step up" on his finger.
Hollie (skyblue color) is more stubborn. During our 20 minutes together in the bathroom, it took 15 minutes to get her/him to let me touch her/him. Hollie doesn't like the broccoli either.
And that's the other thing, we still don't know if they are boys or girls...most everyone think they are boys. A very few people think they are girls. I really hope someone can tell me what they are soon, so I can name them for good and call them boy or girl... LOL Well it's snowing pretty bad now, and school will most likely be canceled tomorrow... OH great... What am I going to do with 3 kids tomorrow... LOL
Have a great day and stay warm.

Wow!!
The birds are doing really really good. Ivie, (the lilac in color one) let me hold him/her and came to me without me chasing him/her down (much). Hollie, (the skyblue in color one) was settle with my husband but not with me. Hollie is very stubborn and has a mind of her own. Ivie is very affectionate, once she stops being so scared. :)

Music...

They LOVE music.... and commericals. When a commerical comes on and there is singing the budgies go crazy... cherping and chattering like crazy. They really like American Idol, especially the bad try outs. LOL They also like the fight scenes in Walker Texas Ranger.
Whenever we go near their cage, they flip out on us... so we are still not doing a whole lot with them. They LOVE the camera...they sit still and pose for me. One of their favorite things to do right now is to sit on their perch and flap their wings. My hubby thinks they are trying to lift the cage up and fly away. LOL
We still don't know what sex they are, the color of their cere (right above their beaks) is like a light purple or lilac coloring. Most people say that they are males, we will see.

Day 4 with our "budgies"
Well, here we are at the end of day 4... Still no names for the birdies.... so we will still call them Hollie & Ivie. They are very active birds and are exploring their new environment. I've learned that Parakeets are INCREDIBLY smart birds and can learn to do acrobatic tricks, they can learn to mimic noises around them and many can even learn to talk. They thrive on attention and I love it! Ivie seems to really like to climb on the bell hanging upside down. Pretty much anytime we look over there, she is upside down. Hollie LOVES to look in the mirror and sing or chatter to herself, she also LOVES the little swing. They are consistantly playing with each other by pecking at each other, chasing each other around their cage and preening each other. I really love watching them fluff up, I'm told that means they are happy.I took Hollie out and held her for awhile today, and Ivie flipped out, Hollie got away from me, and went right for the cage. When they take their little naps during the day they snuggle with each other. I really love having parakeets in the house.

Story of my birdies
Well, yesterday (February 4, 2007) we brought them home. Lynn named
them Hollie & Ivie - and since they aren't yet 2 months old, we don't know if they are girls or not...so we are waiting to name them (if you have some ideas let me know). They don't like it when we try to take them out of the cage, but we haven't tried to do that very much. They are trusting me & my hubby enough to "step up" and let us pet them a little. We had CMT on this morning listening to videos and they were chatting along with the music. Tonight, they seem to be playing with each other, at least I hope that is what they are doing...either that or grooming each other... or a bird fight. My dh thinks they are playing. I think my biggest fear, is that they will bond with my husband and not me...I mean my dog Maggie ~ is MY dog, and she would rather be with him than me... most of the time. LOL He is so stinkin' good with all animals, it makes me sick... but he is really good looking!! ;)

I got my birdies!!!!
Well here are my babies... they are named Hollie & Ivie... Hollie is the Sky Blue in color on the right, and Ivie is the Lilac or Mauve color. Hollie was hatched December 21, 2006 & Ivie was hatched on December 23, 2006. I don't know if they are girls or boys yet... so their names may change. They are getting use to their new home and letting us touch them... they've gotten out couple of times and we've had to chase them down and the kids LOVE watching us run after them.
Have a great day!

My Sweetie ♥
Okay, So what attracted me to my hubby...Hmmmm, that's hard... lol no, really it's easy. His smile... he helped me out of the bronco and I looked up and he smiled the
biggest smile I ever saw... and he kept smiling all night long. We were at the rollerskating rink, and every time I was around him he was smiling right at me. I told my friend, "he just keeps smiling at me, do you think that means he likes me...he can't like me, he's too gorgeous!!" When it was time to go, he got in his van and we got into our bronco, and he was trying to show off and gunned the van and broke the universal joint, and we had to give him a lift to his aunts. There was 6 people in the bronco and I sat in the middle up front next to my neighbor (his cousin) and him... I kept thinking "he is sitting next to me... Oh my goodness his knees are touching my knees!!!!" We were sitting on the floor and I was talking to his cousins and his sister while he was on the phone with his mom and I looked up toward him and he was staring at me smiling. I love his smile...I always have, and always will!
